Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. I’ve learned over the past couple years of traveling that instead of focusing on all the touristy things to do in a town, you should visit all the places that locals do. Sometimes this requires a bit of research but it is possible. Some easy ways to find what locals like to do it poll your friends. Head to facebook and ask everyone what they suggest to do/eat/see while in whatever town you’re traveling to. It’s amazing the amount of responses that I get every time I do that.
Another way to live like the locals is to contact the conventions and visitors bureau or tourism department for that city and ask for help. They will always have some great suggestions. Quinn and I ventured to Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory to sneak away from all of the flooding happening in Texas and we had no idea what to do while there. I knew that there was lots of things to do from visiting breweries to kayaking but I’m not the best planner so they help me put together an amazing itinerary.
Because of the rain (and a missing pilot) our flight to Portland was delayed a bit. We arrived before 1pm and we were starving and ready to eat. We didn’t waste any time and headed straight for Bob’s Red Mill. Not only did Bob’s sell over 400 grain based products, but they served a delicious lunch which filled us up after a long flight from Dallas.
I was more than excited when I saw that they had Agave Soda mainly because we don’t have any back home but we are big fans of Agave. I love soda but know how bad it is for me. It’s a love / hate relationship but Agave Soda is organic, has NO GMO’s, caffeine free, and all natural – do I need to go on? We had the option to either eat indoors or outdoors. The weather was amazing and we couldn’t pass up sitting on the patio with the sun blaring down on us.
I ordered a BLT and little did I know, this would be the beginning of a week full of bacon. I literally think I had it with every single meal while I traveled to Mt. Hood. Trust me, no complaints here – I love bacon and it was the best I’ve ever had! After eating, we walked around Bob’s Red Mill Store. I wanted to buy everything and take it home. From rice to flour to local honey, Bob’s had it all!
We loved Bob’s Red Mill. My only regret was not buying some pasta or grains while I was there. Thankfully, you can buy their products online. Add Bob’s Red Mill to your list of places to eat while in the Mt Hood area, you won’t be disappointed.
Bob’s Red Mill is located at 5000 SE International Way, Milwaukie, OR 97222. Stop by and grab a bite to eat!
