I was one of those people who had already started planning my wedding on Pinterest before I even “found the one”. I couldn’t get away from staring at all the pretty things. There are some seriously creative people out there and looking at what they had done for their wedding made me so excited to plan mine.
Years after I had first starting pinning to my “Fairytale Wedding” Pinterest board, I had finally found ‘the one’. The one that I would grow old with. The one my heart desired. The one who made my life brighter. I had no idea he was even planning on proposing which made the whole ordeal even more special. It was unexpected, in front of both of our families at our home. I was the happiest girl in the world!
As soon as we got engaged, everybody started asking “When is the Big Day?” To be honest, I didn’t know. Planning a wedding was such a big deal that I couldn’t wrap my head around it.
There were so many decisions to be made. The ideas started flowing, after planning an extravagant wedding (on pinterest), I decided I wanted something simple. Since I know planning a wedding can be stressful, I wanted to share some insight on how you can make planning fun and stress free!
Set a budget
No matter if you have $1000 or $100,000 you need to set a budget. It’s amazing how fast you will spend your allotted money. Break down how much you want to spend on each item and go from there. (Example: $10,000 budget – $1000 on dress, $3000 on venue, $1500 food, $500 invitations, $500 on Groom’s attire, $1000 beverages, $500 flowers, $1000 photographer, $1000 miscellaneous)
Set a Date
Do you have a certain amount of time that you want to be engaged before getting married? This is a big determining factor along with what time of year you want to get married. Personally, I wanted to get married asap. I didn’t care to be engaged for a long time, we were married within 8 months of being engaged.
I have been in many weddings and I have loved being involved with all of them. It’s such a special time in your life, reach out to your closest friends and let them help you make decisions and get ready for your big day. If you’re like me, you hate asking for help but trust me when I say your friends will forever be grateful that they get to be apart of your special day. I loved having friends to chat about my wedding plans and just having someone there to listen. (I love my husband and all but he could only do so much wedding talk and I don’t blame him. I’m sure I was annoying!)
DIYer or Professional?
Are you a DIYer or would you rather hire professionals to do everything? I wanted a mix of a both. I made center pieces and made my own arrangements but left some things to the professionals – like preparing the food. Keep in mind that whichever one you choose will determine the amount of time you will be putting into your wedding.
Decide on a venue
In my opinion, the venue seemed harder to find mainly because I had already set my mind on what type of decorations that I wanted. Maybe you can choose your venue first then decide on decorations. I wanted everything to match, so I couldn’t book a rustic venue (no matter how awesome it was) because I wanted a more elegant feel OR I couldn’t book a gorgeous church because I wanted to the rustic look.
Order Wedding Invites
I thought long and hard about this. I thought that I could just make my invitations and everything would be fine. This was a perfect example of why being cheap didn’t work out in my favor. After spending HOURS trying to design wedding invitations, I had nothing to show for it. I was irritated. I was mad that I had wasted so much time. Time that I could have been working on something else or just relaxing for once!
Wedding Paper Divas offers FREE samples. It was hard to only choose a few. Think outside the box and order a few samples that you wouldn’t normally choose. All of my samples were absolutely gorgeous, it was hard choosing which one I liked best. Ordering the samples were a great way to see the quality of their product. Not only does Wedding Paper Divas provide invitations but they have a large variety of engagement party invites, thank you notes, save the dates and more. It’s the perfect one stop shop for all your wedding needs.
You will be completely shocked when you start adding everything up. Weddings aren’t cheap. Make sure you stick to your budget. You’ll notice that everything usually triples in price when you use the word wedding. Go over your budget and see what items you want to spend money on and which items aren’t a priority.
Don’t Forget the Reason Behind it all
Wedding planning can be stressful. You might even feel like you’re going crazy at times. When you start to feel overwhelmed, take a seat and breathe. Remember that it isn’t about the wedding, it’s about the marriage. At the end of the day, your napkins not being the correct shade of pink won’t matter or that the flower arrangements don’t have a specific number of roses. Know that when it’s all over, you will be able to start your life as Mr. and Mrs. It’s a beautiful thing.
