Baby showers are cute and fun- and expensive when you start spending more and more money on things like cakes and decorations. But when it comes to the cake, you do have options and you don’t have to go overboard on an elaborate cake. To be honest, I’m not a big cake fan so I’d much rather have a different sort of dessert. There are alternatives that are just as cute and not nearly as expensive.
Cupcakes – Babies are little humans. Cupcakes are little cakes. It makes sense to put them together. Instead of spending money on a large cake, buy cupcakes by the dozen with plain frosting and decorate them yourself. Cupcakes are easier to decorate than large cakes, because they are smaller and easier to maneuver, and you can save a ton of dough by doing the decorating yourself. You can also offer a variety of flavors with cupcakes so you can please everyone’s taste buds.
Pies – Who doesn’t like a good pie? And pies are easy and cheap to make, so make a few or have several people bring a pie. Set them all up on different pie plates of varying heights and top each one with a “baby” fruit, or a mini version of the fruit of which they are made For example, an apple pie would be topped with a small apple, a peach cobbler would be topped with a small peach, and so on. This is a great way to honor a vintage or rustic shower, too. You can decorate each pie plate with fake flowers or ribbons and bows to really make the pie look party-worthy.
Cake Pops – Cake pops can be made in many different styles, different flavors, and they are very easy to make. There are many online tutorials that will show you how to do it on your own kitchen, and you can decorate them as you please. Place them in bunches in glass vases to make them look sophisticated and cute, or place each one individually in a plastic container holding fruit, yogurt, parfait, or ice cream for each guest to have their own dish. You can even personalize the containers these come in with the guests’ initials and allow them to take their dish home with them.
I would much rather have cake pops, cupcakes or pies at my baby shower than a boring cake. These alternatives to baby shower cakes allow you to please everyone at your party. Another great way to save money is to have each one of the hostess of the baby shower to bring one dessert. That will cut down on cost and save you time.
